The Sava program
At the “Sava” school, we have developed an original and carefully thought-out educational program for children from the Serbian diaspora.
The Sava program
In addition to teaching the Serbian language, culture and tradition, we also encourage the development of children’s minds, curiosity and creativity. Classes are held in small groups of peers and the best results are achieved through socialization with peers and direct and warm contact with the teacher.
The curriculum of the course “Serbian as Heritage Language” has been developed by a team of experts for different learning levels:

Native speaker level
A1 (beginner level), A2, B1.1, B1.2 and native speaker level. For each level, content has been carefully selected from the Serbian language, literature and culture, Serbian history, world history and Serbian art history, music, religious studies, biology, ecology, geography and other sciences. The levels are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The teaching of Serbian promotes the development of the four language skills: understanding/listening, speaking, reading and writing (Cyrillic and Latin).
For beginners (level A1), the focus is on communicating in Serbian, expanding vocabulary and mastering the basic rules of grammar.
Depending on the age of the student, grammar is learned spontaneously, through directed play and repetition. The further the students make progress, the more space is given to cultural and literary content as well as creative activities: writing songs and stories, dramatizations, acting or creating comics.
In the “Sava” online courses, students develop their language skills through a combination of learning and playing,
closely linking the teaching of Serbian language and literature with other subjects.
Lessons take place via Zoom and last 45 minutes (30 minutes for children 3 years old).
A complete teaching package includes 3 lessons per week in Serbian language, literature and culture.
More about the Sava program
We cater to the special educational needs of our students who are preparing for their return from abroad or who want to follow the educational program of Serbian schools more closely. At the request of parents, we can organize individual classes in mathematics or other subjects of the first educational cycle. These classes are taught by teachers with a Master’s degree who are highly qualified and experienced in working with children of younger school age.
A gift
In addition to these three lessons, our students have the opportunity to receive a fourth lesson as a gift, the content of which is history and art history. As we are aware that it is impossible for beginners to follow this content in Serbian, we have organized the history lessons in English as well.
Parents
In order to meet the needs of our students’ parents, we have also set up groups for adult learners with Serbian as a foreign language, whose main focus is on mastering the language skills.
Individual lessons
Although we believe that the motivation and progress of students is best ensured in groups of the same age, we also offer individual lessons due to the great interest of parents.
